'Magic beans' for weight loss

A resident of Volzhsky wanted to lose weight and ordered 30 cans with a substance prohibited for transportation across the border.

The Volzhsky City Court sentenced a 36-year-old city dweller to one year of a general regime colony for smuggling 'magic beans' from Kazakhstan containing the sibutramine (part 1 of Article 261.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The defendant wanted to lose weight and ordered 30 cans of "Сyclonic weight loss - Magic Beans" with 1800 capsules and containing the drug with sibutramine with a total weight of more than 350 grams. This is reported by the Prosecutor's Office of the Volgograd region.

In September 2018, the convict made an online order for 12 thousand rubles and indicated his spouse as the recipient. On October 1, the parcel was delivered to one of the courier service units in the city of Volzhsky, and the customer asked his wife to pick up the parcel post. The woman was detained by the FSB officers.

Later it turned out that the detainee did not know about the contents of the parcel, so only the real customer was brought to court. The verdict has not entered into force.
