Kalmykia: judge of arbitration court gets prosecuted for swindling on procurements

Judge of arbitration court in the Republic of Kalmykia Elena Anzhukaeva became a defendant in a criminal case into swindling. With that, the criminal case was initiated by head of the Investigative Committee of Russia Aleksander Bastrykin personally.

The investigation theory is that Anzhukaeva had driven up for 2 million rubles ($30 thousand) the price of an apartment she had bought for the court’s purposes through auction. As a result, the judge appropriated the money.

“Elena Anzhukaeva is being accused of a crime under item 4 of article 159 of Russia’s Criminal Code (Swindling committed by an organised group or on an especially large scale),” the media office of the Investigative Committee of Russia noted.

The incident dates back to 2014 when Anzhukaeva was a chairwoman of the untied committee for determining of suppliers of Kalmykia’s arbitration court. With that, she used her job position to steal the money. It is also determined that other parties had taken part in the machination.

“The criminal case was sent to a department for special cases of the Office of Investigations of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Republic of Kalmykia. At the present time, hot-button investigative activities focused on determination of all details of the crime are being carried out,” the Investigative Committee added.
