Defendant in high treason case Georgy Fomchenkov sentenced to 7 years in colony

Court has sentenced an entrepreneur Georgy Fomchenkov, a defendant in a case related to high treason with the Federal Security Service, to 7 years behind bars, reports RIA Novosti.

Fomchenkov was arrested on December 5, 2016. The criminal case was initiated against a head of a directorate of the Federal Security Service - Colonel Sergey Mikhaylov. The hearings were private due to the fact that some files constitute a State secret.

Besides Mikhaylov and Fomchenkov, a former employee of the information security center of the Federal Security Service Dmitry Dokuchaev and a former employee of a department for investigating computer incidents Kaspersky Lab Ruslan Stoyanov.

RBC had earlier reported that Fomchenkov and Dokuchaev had partially admitted guilt and agreed to cooperate with the investigation. Mikhaylov and Stoyanov pleaded not guilty and got 22 and 14 years behind bars, respectively.

The investigation theory is that in 2011, Mikhaylov - through intermediaries - rendered data on intelligence operations related to a case of a founder of a company Chronopay Pavel Vrublevsky to the FBI. Vrublevsky is being considered a cybercriminal by American side. Mikhaylov had got the data while participating in Vrublevsky’s cultivation. Vrublevsky is being accused of DDoS attack on a payment system Assist in summer, 2010. Aeroflot could not sell its electronic tickets for a few days due to the attack. The investigation believes that Mikhaylov rendered the data recorded on a CD to Dokuchaev; the latter rendered the data to Stoyanov who in 2011 met an employee of an American company I-Defence who actively cooperated with the FBI. The investigation theory is that the condemned Fomchenkov used the same scheme to carry out another CD with secret data to the USA. The defendants had allegedly been supposed to get $10 million for the information, however it is unknown whether they had managed to.
