Moscow court takes former head of Otkritie Bank into custody in absentia Yevgeny Dankevich

Yevgeny Dankevich, who is wanted for embezzlement may be in Israel.

Moscow’s Basmanny District Court took Yevgeny Dankevich, the former chairman of the Otkritie Bank’s board, into custody on charges of embezzling (part 4 of Article 160 CCRF) 34 billion rubles ($ 521 million) in collusion with the management of the 01 Group and 01 Group Finance, the newspaper Kommersant reports. Earlier, the banker was put on the wanted. The investigation believes that Dankevich is hiding in Israel.

“I have information that Dankevich is undergoing treatment, and this information was forwarded to the investigation,” banker’s attorney Norayr Shahnazarov said in court.

The investigation initiated the criminal case in September 2018. According to the investigators, Dankevich, together with the heads of borrowing companies of the Otkritie Bank, organized the issuance and placement of 40 million bonds with a face value of 1,000 rubles ($ 15) each on the Moscow Stock Exchange, when their real value was half as much.
