The rumors about her resignation periodically arose for two years.

Murmansk Region Governor Marina Kovtun has voluntarily resigned. “I asked the president for early resignation. The decision was not easy, but I’m sure it will be better this way,” Kovtun said (as cited by TASS).

It became known that Kovtun had resigned on Tuesday. At the same time, the regional adminstration told Interfax that Kovtun was in Moscow on that day, and nothing was known about her resignation. Previously, the rumors about her resignation periodically arose for two years, Kommersant reports.

Former Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg for transport and construction Igor Albin may be appointed as Acting Head of the Murmansk region.

Earlier on, Aleksandr Berdnikov, who led the Altai republic, and Boris Dubrovsky, who was Governor of the Chelyabinsk region, also filed for early termination of powers.
