Polish police detained Vice-President of Probusinessbank Yaroslav Alekseev, who is suspected of embezzling bank funds as part of an organized group. Among the bank's VIP-depositors there were Vyacheslav Fetisov and Valery Gazzaev.

Last week, Yaroslav Alekseev, the Vice-President of corporate finance at Probusinessbank, was detained in Poland. RBC quotes a source in the ICR central office, the information was confirmed by the source, familiar with the investigation materials.

“Alekseev was detained for 40 days; Interpol search activities were carried out in respect of the ex-banker,” said a source familiar with the investigation.

The decision to arrest the banker in absentia was made by the Basmanny court of the capital in 2017 on charges of committing Embezzlement on a large scale (part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code). The ex-banker was put on the federal wanted list and the international wanted list.

The case file states that in 2014 Alekseev joined an organized group created by Probusinessbank Chairman Alexander Zheleznyak and Bank President Sergey Leontiev to steal money on a large scale. According to the investigation, from September 2014 to July 2015, bankers illegally appropriated 2.4 billion rubles, giving loans to fictitious companies. Alekseev was responsible for the selection of legal entities for the scheme. As a result, the money was transferred to companies controlled by the bankers and accumulated in the accounts of the collection agency Life and the Cyprus company Vermenda Holdings Limited.

Leontiev and Zheleznyak left for the United States and were also arrested in absentia by the Basmanny court and put on the international wanted list.

In August 2015, the Central Bank deprived Probusinessbank (the head bank of the Life financial group) of a license and appointed a temporary administration. Two months later, the bank was declared bankrupt. The audit of the financial condition revealed large-scale operations for the withdrawal of assets, the damage from the actions of its leaders exceeded 34 billion rubles. DIA revealed a shortage of 69.8 billion rubles, during the inventory of the property, the bank was declared bankrupt.
